Knowledge Creation and Sharing
Human resource development is a key component of Bharat’s development cooperation efforts in Bangladesh through its several ongoing training programs and scholarships. The Government of India has been providing training to Bangladesh Civil Service officials, police officials, judicial officials and judges, professionals, among others, at various premier training institutes in Bharat.
Capacity Building
An important Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) partner country, Bangladesh annually sees around 800 participants availing benefits of the ITEC training courses. Despite the courses shifting to virtual mode, training activities did not stall and over 180 Bangladeshi nationals engaged in the e-ITEC courses during this period. In March 2021, Bharat announced 1000 “Suborno Jayanti Scholarships” for Bangladeshi students and in February 2022, a dedicated website was launched for desirous Bangladeshi students wanting to study in premier Govt. of India educational institutes, including the IITs and NIITs, and pursue under-graduation, post-graduation and M.Phil./Ph.D. courses.
Grant & Concessional Finance
The Government of India has funded 74 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) including construction of student hostels, academic buildings, skill development and training institutes, cultural centers, and orphanages etc in Bangladesh and another 14 HICDPs are being implemented, with all the 88 projects amounting to over USD 45 mn.
