There are two Acts in existence pertaining to the regulation of the Cooperatives–one is the Telangana Cooperative Societies Act 1964, the provisions of which are considered necessary for such cooperatives which have depended on the support from the Government and consequential intervention in the governance. The second Act is Telangana Mutually Aided Cooperative Societies (MACS) Act of 1995, which aims at promoting self-reliant, responsible, accountable and more autonomy for Cooperative Societies with their ownresources, which would make the Cooperative Movement more vibrant. NCD Portal provides for 360 degrees view of cooperative sector in Telangana state. There are 60,125 Primary Cooperative Societies spread across 33 districts. Numerically Credit and Thrift Cooperative Societies (24,020) top the list followed by Livestock and Poultry Societies (7,974), Fisheries Societies (4,985), Labour (4,296) and Dairy (2,102). Cooperative Sector of Telangana State is vibrant with 1,42,98,836 members actively participating in the Cooperative movement contributing to its growth and development. There are 920 PACS in the state serving around 33.7 lakh farmers providing timely agricultural credit and other Agricultural inputs like Fertilizers, Pesticides, Seeds. PACSin the state are multi-service centres and are functioning as one-stop shop for farmers providing facilities of storage, procurements and marketing also. The GIS maps on the portal facilitates easy and quick comparison of cooperative sector of Telangana State visa-vis other states in the country.
